The problems one can encounter while driving is aplenty, and fixing the problems can be quite overwhelming. Thankfully, not all automotive problems are hard to fix. In fact, there’s one that can be fixed by you! At Paoli Ford, we understand all there is to understand about all types of cars, trucks, and SUVs, and we’re always here to help. If you find yourself with a flat tire, there are three main steps to follow:
1. Find a Safe Spot
Whether it’s a flat tire or a strange noise coming out of your hood, your first instinct should be to pull over. Make sure that when you do, you pull over in a safe spot. A safe spot can be the shoulder of the road or highway, or perhaps it can be as simple as exiting to a quiet street where traffic is minimal.
2. Locate the Spare Tire and Tools
You want to replace a flat tire immediately so it doesn’t further damage your car. The spare tire is normally located in the trunk under the floor mat. Take it out, and place it by the flat tire. You also want to locate the jack and tire iron.
3. Change the Tire
Take the tire iron and loosen each wheel lug by turning them counterclockwise. Then, move the jack underneath the car, raise it until it contacts the frame and the tire is completely off the ground. Next, remove the wheel lugs completely and remove the flat tire. Finally, you’ll want to place the spare tire over the wheel studs and screw each wheel lug tightly back on. After all is said and done, you’ll want to drive to your nearest Ford service center, Paoli Ford.
